Do the size of the company and the internationalization grade have an influence on the adoption of management systems? Analysis of a sample of industrial companies from Catalonia

Resumen

(English) The aim of this work is to evaluate whether the adoption of quality management systems (ISO 9001), environmental management systems (ISO 14001) and occupational health and safety systems (OHSAS 18001) in manufacturing companies is related to the size of the company and the degree of internationalization. To fulfill this aim, a survey amongst companies from the region of Catalonia has been conducted. The results of the study reveal a direct and positive relation between the adoption of quality and environmental management systems and the size of the company. In the same way, there is a relation between the degree of internationalization and the adoption of quality and occupational health and safety management systems.

(Castellano) El objetivo de este trabajo es valorar si la implantación de sistemas de gestión de la calidad (ISO 9001), medioambiente (ISO 14001) y seguridad y salud laboral (OHSAS 18001) en empresas industriales está relacionada con la dimensión de la empresa y el grado de internacionalización. Para ello se ha llevado a cabo un estudio empírico mediante un exhaustivo cuestionario entre empresas de la comunidad autónoma de Cataluña. Los resultados del estudio muestran que existe una relación directa y positiva entre la aplicación de sistemas de gestión de la calidad y del medioambiente con la dimensión de empresa.
