In Europe, Low Cost Carriers (LCCs) emerged as a result of a liberalised European market and have enjoyed fenomenal growth, which has attracted a growing number of players into the market place. Increasing competition is leading to route saturation and overcapacity, which in turn show the way to price wars, shrinking margins, and eventually, consolidation. This paper examines the challenges faced by the European LCC sector today and the ways forward for LCCs.
